Recto annotation: B 2939. San Miguel. Church in 1890, Santa Fe, New Mex.
Verso annotation: The oldest church in the United States is in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This picture represents it as it was in 1890. Many date the foundation of this remarkable church back to 1541. The Indians, in 1680, destroyed only the upper portion of its walls. DeVargas rebuilt it in 1695.It then became the Parish Church up to 1728. Father Juan de Jesus, killed by Indians in 1680, is buried here, also DeVargas, who died in 1704, and many other notable persons who lived many years ago.
